Role Overview

At RMT Technology, we’re dedicated to providing meaningful work experience for early careers and students, empowering them to develop essential skills and launch successful careers in tech. We’re looking for a motivated and enthusiastic IT Support Placement Student to join our managed services team. This position is ideal for someone looking to gain practical experience in IT support while contributing to our commitment to excellent customer service. You will work closely with experienced IT professionals and have the opportunity to learn about various aspects of IT operations.

  • Engaging and troubleshooting requests from RMT employees and clients via phone, email, and in-person providing 1st/2 Taking ownership and resolving support queries via phone, email & remotely.
  • Log and track support requests on our Autotask Service Desk system including carrying out and documenting service actions & documenting closed calls & resolutions.
  • Liaising with clients to keep them up-to-date their requests.
  • Conducting software and hardware auditing and license management projects.
  • Documenting clients IT infrastructure, in terms of network topology, server & PC hardware, software, networks, firewalls, switches and routers.
  • Assist with application management and deployment, management of corporate anti-virus & firewall solutions.
  • Assist with patch management for both desktops and servers.
  • Perform System administration on client infrastructure & servers.
  • Check client backups and resolving backup issues
  • Support IT projects and initiatives as needed, contributing to team success.

Skill & qualities

We acknowledge that you may be early in your career and not have practical skills and qualifications, and the above responsibilities may seem daunting!  We’re a friendly and supportive team and we will provide the opportunity for you to build skills and gain experience.  In return we are looking for a candidate with:

  • an inquisitive mind and strong interest in IT and technology support
  • good communication, telephone and client facing skills
  • personable, service driven and with a sense of humour
  • a willingness to learn, stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies to enhance and apply knowledge and skills
  • currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Business or a related field.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft 365 admin and cloud skills are desirable
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
